  • Swim Spa Maintenance: Is It Hard to Maintain?

Daily and weekly maintenance tasks

Swim spas require similar care to hot tubs. Every day you should skim leaves and debris from the surface and check that the pumps and jets are working properly. Once a week test the water chemistry using test strips and adjust the sanitiser and pH levels.

Monthly and quarterly tasks

Clean the filters at least once a month to remove trapped dirt and oils. Rinse them with a hose and use filter cleaner when needed. Wipe down the shell and inspect the cover for damage. Every three to six months drain and refill the swim spa to prevent a build‑up of contaminants. If your spa has a self‑cleaning system you may be able to go longer between water changes.

Factors that influence maintenance difficulty

  • Usage: More frequent use and larger numbers of bathers introduce more contaminants, requiring more regular maintenance.
  • Water chemistry: Maintaining proper sanitizer and pH levels prevents algae and bacteria growth and extends time between water changes.
  • Environment: Outdoor spas exposed to leaves and dirt need more skimming. A good cover reduces debris and evaporation.
  • Equipment: Self‑cleaning filtration and UV/ozone systems reduce chemical use and make maintenance easier.

Is it hard?

With a routine schedule, swim spa maintenance is straightforward. The time commitment is similar to looking after a hot tub: a few minutes each week to check water chemistry and equipment, plus periodic cleaning and water changes. High‑quality covers and built‑in self‑cleaning systems minimise effort. If you prefer to leave maintenance to the experts, our team offers professional servicing plans.
